The menopause can be extremely challenging for many of us, with a whole host of symptoms and emotions. Yoga and all its tools can be really helpful during this time. However, your regular practice may need a few adjustments to support you through this stage. This workshop for all stages of the menopause is designed to enable you to look at your practice, to see what is working right now and what may be more effective. During the morning we will explore what the menopause means for us at whatever stage we are in.The session will begin with a Women's Circle which allows everyone to share their experiences (speaking is optional. There is no pressure to share). This empowers women to feel that their voice/experience is valid. This is so important as women can often feel invisible and not relevant as they approach the menopause. We will explore breathing techniques and yoga poses, including restorative poses, to help relieve some of the symptoms and calm the emotions. There will also be time for self reflection and journalling over a cup of tea so please bring a notebook.
In so many cultures, the time around and after the menopause is revered. This can be a truly special time for women when our innate wisdom begins to shine through. However, our Western culture has lost sight of the many gifts that come with being older, and this leads to some women feeling lost, lacking a sense of direction. The aim is that by the end of the session you will have some techniques/tools to enable you to cope with the menopause more confidently. Please note that the workshop is also suitable for complete beginners to yoga.
About the teacher: Yvonne took her first Yoga Teacher training with the British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) in 2011. Since then, she has taken trainings in both Yin & Restorative Yoga & incorporates all of these styles into her Classes & Workshops. She is particularly passionate about incorporating the asanas (postures) to fit with the individual body shapes of each student rather than getting the student to fit the posture.
In 2021 she took her Menopause Yoga® Teacher training with Petra Coveney the founder of Menopause Yoga®. This was of particular interest to Yvonne as she struggled during her own Menopause with symptoms of depression & isolation. She was therefore curious to see what Yoga for the Menopause could offer to other Women with the same issues. Completing the training & teaching workshops has been both an illuminating & a humbling experience, witnessing the effects the Menopause can have on so many women.
